Frederick Digs Out!

It seems as if the winter assault is finally over, at least for now. While Frederick is still in the process of digging out from the nearly five feet of snow that has fallen on us in the last two weeks it does seem there are signs of life returning to normal. The tree rats (squirrels) have come out of hiding and are back to their old tricks of getting into anything that hasn’t been put under lock and key. They were not seen for days during the storms, the last time we remember them hiding for so long was when the broad winged hawks moved into the area... The birds are back to normal feeding habits instead of the mob scenes witnessed as each storm approached, and the screech of tires spinning on the ice and snow is considerably lessened. It would almost be enjoyable if not for the remaining 4-7’ drifts needing to be shoveled out of the way!

All visitors should be aware the excessive snowfall we received has limited many area streets to less than their full width, so please use caution and courtesy when traveling into town for the First Saturday events. You should also be aware the city has directed residents of many areas to park personal vehicles in the city parking decks in order to facilitate snow removal from the already narrow side streets. What this means to you is parking will be at a premium and it may take slightly longer to find a parking spot and reach your destination so allow for the extra time needed. When traveling the side streets you may find some areas are little than one lane wide so show some courtesy to fellow travelers and take turns navigating through the tight spots. We want everyone visiting to have a good time and to be able to return home without incurring excessive stress or injury.
