On Saturday, May 1, 2010 the Delaplaine Visual Arts and Education Center will host a number of opening receptions throughout the gallery from 3-5 P.M. Must see exhibits include Vo-Dinh Mai : A Retrospective. Covering 30 years of artistic creation by the late internationally recognized artist this exhibit is curated by Calvin Edward Ramsburg and Hannah Vo-Dinh. Vo-Dinh was a mentor to and a major influence on a young Calvin Edward Ramsburg, now a renowned artist in his own right.
Among the other exhibits opening at the Delaplaine will be The Art of Flowers by Sonia Gadra, Elizabeth Holm, & Merri Nelson ; Ways of Speaking featuring paintings by Jim Germaux ; Unnoticed Underfoot photographs by Lee Permenter ; Fine Art Quilts by Catherine Kleeman ; and Mark of the Gesture paintings by Mark Shaffer & Beckie Laughlin. All opening receptions run from 3-5 P.M.
In the downtown area the Frederick Arts Council will present the opening of an exhibit by artist John Holly. Mr. Holly creates his art in paintings and in mixed media. A reception for the artist will be held from 5-7 P.M. in the Cultural Arts Center gallery located at 15 North Market Street.
The Artists Gallery will present the opening of the exhibit RE / NEW featuring works by member artists with a theme inspired by the natural renewal and awakening of the season. Works will include new pieces and older works that have been reworked or otherwise renewed. The opening reception takes place from 5-7 P.M. in the gallery located just off of Market Street at 4 East Church Street.

Sunday, May 2, 2010 brings us another great exhibit at The Blanche Ames Gallery located within the Unitarian Universalist Church of Frederick at 4880 Elmer Derr Road - just outside Frederick, MD. The exhibit this month will feature En Plein Air works created by local artists Peter Plant, Deborah Richardson, Rebecca Jackson, and Glen Souder. An opening reception for the artist’s will be held on May 2, 2010 from 12:30-2:30 P.M. in the Gallery. Directions to the gallery can be found here.
